FINGERS DUKE

APPAREL & MERCH DESIGN

ABOUT

As a screen printing and design studio that highlights local artwork, Fingers Duke takes great pride in offering unique and eye-catching apparel designs for our storefront. To create these designs, I combined both traditional and digital illustration techniques with my graphic design skills, resulting in some super rad tees, tanks, hoodies, bags, and more! Each final product reflects our commitment to showcasing local art and delivering high-quality, visually striking apparel that truly stands out.

TRADITIONAL TO DIGITAL

Inspired by the beautiful Pacific Northwest, I hand-drew a camping illustration using an ordinary pen and notebook paper. With a little editing in Photoshop, I was able to transform this illustration into a vector graphic using Adobe Illustrator's image trace feature. The final product was screen-printed on both tanks and hoodies using water-based ink, resulting in a stunning and environmentally friendly design. My love for the outdoors and passion for illustration truly shines through in this PNW-inspired camping design, and I'm proud to have contributed to its creation.

PHOTOSHOP MANIPULATION

While browsing the web, I stumbled upon some beautiful engravings of wildlife and botanical elements with a historic feel. However, to achieve the best screen-printed result, it was necessary to convert the artwork to vector format. With this in mind, I used various techniques such as adjusting the contrast, levels, and pixel count to transform these old engravings into vector elements. I then pieced these elements together to create the silhouette of Washington state, resulting in a fun and visually appealing design with a distinctly PNW vibe. I'm proud to have breathed new life into these historic engravings and to have contributed to the creation of this unique design.

VECTORS

While working at Fingers Duke, my experience with vector graphics grew exponentially. My day-to-day work included vectorizing logos from various companies, which helped me become proficient in using Illustrator's pen tool, shape builder, and pathfinder. With time, I began creating vector illustrations right from my imagination. However, when clients had specific design ideas, I was able to browse resources like Freepik and Adobe Stock to find easy-to-use vector graphics that I could manipulate to achieve the desired outcome.

ONE COLOR PRINTS

Did you know that screen-printing involves using actual tubs of ink, and that each ink color has to be set before the next one can be applied? Well, it's true! When the shop needed some new and exciting bag designs, I decided to create illustrations that would work well in just one color, which helped to save on printing costs. At Fingers Duke, we were known for our fun and playful typography, so I always strived to keep my designs quirky and in line with the shop's brand.

HOLIDAY CARDS

To help our busy clients with their annual holiday card list while still offering them a hand-made touch, we created custom card designs in Adobe Illustrator that were digitally printed. Each design was unique and included a cohesive type and color scheme, which allowed for custom messages to be added by the clients while maintaining a professional look. To ensure exclusivity, once a design was purchased, it was taken off the list to prevent duplicate designs. This approach gave the cards a heartfelt touch and made each one feel special.
